What you need to know when renting a car abroad

Do you want to travel freely during the holidays with a locally rented vehicle? It is an excellent idea, but some practical tips are useful to rent a car in Islamabad without problems.

On which points you should have to pay attention when renting a car?

Take the time to compare different offers that correspond to your needs, availability, and place of stay.

Some special offers can considerably reduce the amount you rent the car (booking with

more time in advance, promotional weekends, etc.).

Also, airlines often offer negotiated rates with those who rent cars.

Ask about the traffic rules and speed limits applicable before going abroad.

CAREFUL:

  • Availability and models of rental cars to ensure that they respond well to your needs (number of passengers, size, etc.). If the reserved model does not correspond, due to the lack of availability, with the one rented in the end, you do not have to pay more if the vehicle is from a higher range. If the vehicle is in a range
  • Limitations on the age at which you can drive a car in the country where you want to travel;
  • The general booking conditions of the renting company: minimum rental duration (a few hours or a day), the booking date (this can be from a few hours before taking the car, up to a few months before), the geographical area covered to travel to a country other than the one from which I rented the car);
  • At the additional options invoiced in addition to the rental costs (child seat, GPS, etc.);
  • At additional costs (specific fee in case of booking at the airport or other local taxes, called “road taxes”); For the different types of insurance included in the rental cost;
  • For mileage (limited or not): for long routes unlimited mileage is more favorable;
  • At the accepted means of payment; To other means of transport of the countries visited.
  • The contract you sign. You have to understand all the clauses.

Delivery receipt

It is done in the presence of an employee of the Rental Company. You must determine the condition of the vehicle at departure. Ask to make the inventory before taking over the car: you must write down on the rental contract all the observations (damages, shocks previously suffered by the car) and check that the additional elements provided (GPS, radio, child seat) are available. Also, check the fuel level. If possible, take pictures of visible damage.

CHECK THE INSURANCE!

If in doubt, ask if you are insured for all risks. Car rental contracts provide very high fees in case of problems (even for a scratch). It is better then, when signing the contract, to take out additional insurance that would allow you to reduce costs in case of an accident.

If there is a second driver for the rented vehicle, make sure the person is covered by insurance.

This will be charged extra, but this can help you a lot in case of an accident. If you have not switched to insurance, the insurer may refuse to grant you compensation for the second driver.

Don’t forget to read the general conditions of assistance in case of problems (emergency number, the right to replace the vehicle, etc.).

guarantee

Some rental companies will ask you to provide a guarantee corresponding to the amount due for the rental. This amount will cover any damage to the rented vehicle.

Conditions for the lessor

Age varies depending on the conditions of car owners. In general, the minimum rental age is between 18 and 21, depending on the category of vehicle (sometimes 23 years if paid in cash or check).

He must also have a permit of at least one year or even two.

Most car rental companies charge an additional “young driver insurance” fee for those under 25 years of age.

fuel

You must return the car with the same filling level as the one with which you initially rented the car. If the level is not the same, the owner will charge a price for fuel that will certainly be higher than the one you would have refueled, plus the filing fee (it is nothing illegal, as long as the price is available and visible in agency).

The choice to purchase a fuel is available at some rental companies.

Check before accepting this option: you need to know what options you have for the unused amount of full fuel, whether it is reimbursed or not by the owner.

Remember to keep proof at the gas station in case the volume of gasoline is the subject of misunderstandings.

DURING THE RENTAL PERIOD

In case of any misconduct of vehicle, inform the rental company urgently.

In case of an accident, you must fill in the amicable finding form for accidents.

In case of theft, you must file a complaint and return the vehicle keys and documents.

Your liability will be limited according to the amount you have subscribed for in the event of accident or theft insurance.

Fines and contraventions are borne by the user to which administrative fees are added.

CAR DELIVERY

What should you pay attention to return the car correctly?

The vehicle must be returned to the place originally provided in the rental contract. A surcharge will be applied if it is returned to another agency.

The vehicle and the keys must be handed over to a company authorized agent, at the time initially provided. A tolerance of 30 minutes to one hour can be applied.

Careful! If you are late more than that, another rental day will be added to the invoice.

On return, the car must be inventoried again by an employee of the agency. As proof, he must sign the inventory document stating that there are no problems.

If the vehicle cannot be returned during business hours, you will be responsible for it until the next day when the rental agency opens.

Good to know:

Some owners use mailboxes for refunds. Take some photos of the car at the time of delivery. The owner will not be able to force you to bear any repair costs.

Keep all payment documents (especially those signed by you, for example, a bank document, left at the agency as a guarantee).
